I reread Renee Cavanaugh’s statement about her intention to run for a seat on the school board. Based on that statement, her qualifications for that position have been questioned by some - and that’s fair enough. I’m not sure what’s in Ms. Cavanaugh’s mind, but I’d guess that she purposely avoided the quagmire of the current, hot-button issues (emphasis on “current”). We will eventually move on, past all that - and the work of running a school district will go on. For now, I guess every school board member, on every school board in the country has to address those issues in some way - but I’m glad that Ms. Cavanaugh is resisting the litmus tests.

As for those qualifications for the job, of course she’s qualified. I’m thankful for anybody of that caliber, who’s willing to serve.

By the way: I did some quick research on performance and ratings of the Coronado Unified School District. Yes, there’s always room for improvement; but by most metrics, our district is very highly rated. We’re not going down the tubes - contrary to what some folks are saying.
